Un imparable Parko arrasa en el Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons.
Joel Parkinson consiguió su primer título de campeón mundial al ganar el Billabong Pipe Masters in memory of Andy Irons ante su compatriota Josh Kerr, el triunfo de Parko llegó minutos antes de disputar la final, cuando Kelly Slater no pudo superar en la segunda semifinal a Josh Kerr (11.13 – 4.90), y automáticamente desató la euforia del flamante campeón.
El integrante del team Billabong redondeó una increíble actuación, el score final ante Kerr fue 17.17 – 14.83, quizás un dato anecdótico debido a que salió a surfear sin ningún tipo de presión, su máxima amenaza dejaba pasar la oportunidad de conseguir su doceavo título. Kalani Chapman, Cj Hobgood, Kieren Perrow, Damien Hobgood y Josh Kerr fueron los que sufrieron el excelente andar de Parko en Pipe.
Después de muchos años de perseguir el sueño, Parko consiguió meter su nombre en la galería de campeones del ASP World Tour, con un increíble Billabong Pipe Masters en el bolsillo, atrás quedan años de postergación y de oportunidades desaprovechadas por lesiones, distracciones, inmadurez pero nunca por falta de surfing.
Parko campeón, el mundo del Surf se lo merecía.
