Con olas de dos a tres pies se realizó en Rainbow Bay la primera ronda del Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, fecha inicial del ASP World Tour 2013, el TOP 34 dio muestras de sobrado talento para hacer creer que este será un año de dura batalla en el camino al título.
Travis Logie se llevó la combinación más alta del día (18.20 puntos), en el segundo heat brilló y se aseguró el paso directo a la tercera ronda, Adriano de Souza y Dusty Payne sufrieron el gran momento del sudafricano.
Bede Durbidge, Travis Logie, John John Florence, Mick Fanning, Kelly Slater, Matt Wilkinson, Gabriel Medina, Alejo Muniz, Julian Wilson, Michel Bourez, Brett Simpson y Jordy Smith pasaron de manera directa a la tercera ronda.
El actual campeón mundial, Joel Parkinson, no logró pasar el primer corte y ahora deberá medirse con su compatriota Bren Dorrington en el primer heat de la segunda ronda.
